About Us

We help you make the most
of the space you actually have.

The edit for life
under 700 sq ft.

The Compact Space is a product research and recommendations site for people living in studios, junior one-bedrooms and micro-lofts. We’ve been there — small apartment, limited budget, seventeen tabs open comparing sofas that may or may not fit through the front door. This site is the tab you open instead of all the others.

How we choose what to recommend

Every product on this site goes through the same checklist before it gets recommended.

A Murphy bed that won’t open fully, a sofa that blocks the only window — we check measurements against real studio layouts before anything else makes the list.

One room doing three jobs means every piece has to pull weight. Sofa beds, storage ottomans, extendable tables — anything that earns its square footage gets moved up the list.

Most small spaces are rented. No-drill, peel-and-stick and removable options are flagged by default in every roundup — not buried in a footnote.

Budget to mid-range. Every roundup names the best-value pick outright — no hunting through the list to figure out which one is actually worth it.

Ten well-chosen options, not twenty-five with padding. If it didn’t make the cut, it isn’t in the roundup.

The Compact Space Team

The Compact Space is run by someone who has moved four times in six years, always into a place smaller than expected. Every recommendation on this site has been researched the way I’d want someone to research it for us — dimensions checked, renter restrictions noted, cheap alternatives included.

A straight answer on how
this site is funded

The Compact Space earns a commission when you buy through links on this site, at no extra cost to you.

Commission rate never affects placement. If something isn’t worth buying for a small space, it doesn’t appear here — regardless of what it pays.

Full details are on our Disclosures page.
